Nanette Musters has been inspiring young writers for over fifteen years. Her passion for writing spills over into her third grade classroom at Mark Twain Elementary. She credits this passion to her own seventh grade English teacher, who encouraged her to write her first poem. (And she still has it!) Her participation in the Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop at Columbia University Teachers College, University of Houston’s Imprint, and Rice University’s Writers in the School Project and the School Writing Project has fueled her love of writing and set the stage for implementing innovative writing initiatives.
Ms. Musters has been an active participant in Rice University’s School Writing Project for several years and was named Director of this project in 2007. With this new responsibility, she will be conducting writing workshops for teachers throughout the year culminating with a student reading on the Rice University Campus. The experience of collaborating with fellow teachers as writers has been invaluable. Along with gaining insight into her own writing she was able to bring new ideas to her classroom and generate enthusiastic participation with the annual spring readings.
